Staff hiring down, layoffs up in 2016

McKinley Advisors conducted 10th annual survey Dec. 12-Jan. 8 McKinley Advisors released its 10th annual study on the impact of economic conditions on associations. Slightly more than half of groups surveyed, 53 percent, said they added positions last year—a decline from the previous year's peak of 69 percent and the lowest percentage in five years. The percentage of associations that reported making layoffs or eliminating positions was also up, to 17 percent, compared with 12 percent the year before.
